About the Course

This course is approved by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), which proves that we train to the highest possible standards. It is ideal for individuals as well as organisations who require qualified first aiders in the work-place. It teaches candidates the core skills required to enable them to work efficiently and effectively as the companies designated First Aider.

Who is it for?

Whether your company is big or small, high or low risk, this course is ideal for the person chosen to be the nominated First Aider. It is ideal for the small organsation who require one First Aider or the larger organisation who require a team of First Aiders.

What will be covered?

On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to:

  • understand the role of the first aider including reference to the use of available equipment and the need for recording incidents and actions;
  • understand the importance of basic hygiene in first-aid procedures;
  • assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safely, promptly and effectively in an emergency;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious and/or in seizure;
  • administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded or bleeding and/or in shock;
  • administer first aid to a casualty who is choking;
  • provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries.
  • recognising the presence of major illness and applying general first aid principles in its management.


In addition, candidates should be able to demonstrate the correct first-aid management of:

  • soft tissue injuries;
  • injuries to bones including suspected spinal injuries;
  • chest injuries;
  • burns and scalds;
  • eye injuries including how to irrigate an eye;
  • sudden poisoning and anaphylactic shock.


How Long is the Course?

The course is a minimum of 18 contact hours and is usually run over 3-Consecutive Days between the hours of 0900 - 1600hrs This allows for 6 contact hours plus a 30 minute lunch and two 15 minute tea breaks throughout each day.

We are able to offer the course in other formats such as 1-day per week to assist where companies have booked a course for their candidates. This method of delivery can often asist companies in releasing staff to attend courses with minimum disruption to your company activities.

For the single day per week delivery, the course must be completed within a Nine week period. Please contact us to arrange this delivery method.

How is the course assessed?

Candidaes are assessed informally throughout the course. There are ongoing progress tests used to check candidates progress. On the last day of the course, an assessor who has not been involved in the training, in line with HSE requirements attends and formally assesses the candidates abilities to perform first aid tasks.

Course Price: £160.00 per candidate. There is no VAT or Hidden Charges.

We are able to offer discounts for companies and organisations booking a course for 12 candidates either at our training location or at your location. Please contact us for further information.

Please note that if you require a course run at your location, we will need to attend your venue and ensure that the training facilities are in line with the requirements for running HSE First Aid Training.

What you get:

On succesful completion of the course you will receive a Nationally Recognised First Aid at Work Certificate valid for 3 Years.
